Monday night's episode of RAW was one of the best instalments of the show in recent memory, with the segment revolving around CM Punk, Drew McIntyre, and Seth Rollins proving to be an undeniable highlight.
Punk was injured by McIntyre during the Men's Royal Rumble match and the latter earned a shot at Rollins' World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania during the Elimination Chamber PLE.
Their segment on RAW featured a lot of surprising lines, some swearing, and felt a lot less scripted than usual. Now, Fightful Select is reporting that while a rough version of the Punk/Rollins/McIntyre segment was outlined beforehand, they were all given the green light to go for it and see where it took them.
Adam Pearce produced the promo and this was a far cry from the usual WWE scripted promos.
It's said that WWE didn't expect Punk to curse, though we're guessing the company wasn't too bothered when The Rock was freely dropping F-bombs during his brutal attack on Cody Rhodes in RAW's main event segment.
Oh, and for those of you wondering if the Second City Saint has any backstage heat for alluding to Vince McMahon while talking about McIntyre's history as the "Chosen One," it wasn't an issue for executives and he still has plenty of goodwill backstage.
The fact the segment was a ratings hit likely helps matters. RAW drew 1,729,000 viewers and rose to 0.57 in the key 18-49 demographic.
"I don’t hate Seth Rollins, he’s not CM Punk - I just don’t like the way he goes about things in his selfish attitude and he doesn’t see it, he thinks he’s a leader, but he’s absolutely not, he’s all about himself," McIntyre said during a recent interview with The Masked Man Show. "A true leader is about the roster, is about democracy, and how can you lead the roster, lead the locker room if you’re never in it and you’re on your tour bus?"
"For me, he’s done a great job, a phenomenal job," he said of Rollins' stint as champion. "I don’t know if anybody could’ve made the title into what it is besides somebody like him. I will finally have that world title I can take around and defend, it will be everywhere with me, it’s gonna have a hell of a journey by my side."
During RAW, it was confirmed that Punk will serve as a guest commentator during their WrestleMania match, though we definitely expect the Best in the World to get involved with the match somehow.
