WWE released fourteen NXT Superstars last night, and there were definitely some big surprises. The likes of Killian Dane, Tyler Breeze, Marina Shafir, and Fandango are now unemployed, with the reason once again being that WWE is looking to save money as a result of so-called "budget cuts."
Now, it's been revealed that WWE President & Chief Revenue Officer Nick Khan was the one who led a meeting at WWE Headquarters yesterday to decide which wrestlers should be released.
Whether it's for a sale or to just make the company look better on the stock market, he clearly wants to save money, and no longer stockpiling talent is part of that. More releases could be coming, and it's noted - via Fightful Select - that many of the 205 Live Superstars who were released were being overpaid in WWE's eyes (no great surprise when the show is something of a flop).
When it comes to non-compete clauses, some of these wrestlers are tied into 90-day non-competes, while others have only 30 days they'll have to sit at home for.
Those in the latter group will be free to work elsewhere from July 25, while the rest (like Tony Nese, for example) will be free agents only after September 23.
We'll keep you updated as we learn more about these releases and any future ones.
