Brock Lesnar Seemingly Retires At WrestleMania 42 Following Loss To Oba Femi

Oba Femi defeated Brock Lesnar in the opening match of WWE WrestleMania Sunday, leading to The Beast Incarnate leaving his gloves and boots in the ring for what appears to be a retirement.

WWE WrestleMania 42 Sunday started off with a bang as the battle of the behemoths between Brock Lesnar and Oba Femi seemingly not only christened a new "Next Big Thing", but apparently put an end to the original at the same time.

In the opening bout, Oba Femi defeated Brock Lesnar in a less than five minute affair. Typical of Lesnar's matches, the fight was short but explosive, with both of them showing some feats of strength. Ultimately, an F-5 from Lesnar that normally puts all of his opponents down for the count was nowhere near enough to take out The Ruler, who sprung back to life almost immediately after and followed it up with a chokeslam and a power bomb for the victory.

This was Femi's first match at WrestleMania and it appears it will be Lesnar's last, as after the pinfall took place and Femi made his exit, The Beast Incarnate slowly took off his gloves to a crowd that started to realize what this meant: that he will be retiring. Lesnar, who rarely ever shows any emotion, suddenly became overwhelmed and started to cry as he unlaced his boots and placed those in the ring as well, bowing down on his knees to show respect to what we could assume would be the mat and to the fans as well.

His longtime friend, advocate, and manager, Paul Heyman, then joined him in the ring and they embraced each other with a hug, making the moment even more real.

This retirement comes at a surprise considering all the rumors, speculation, and gossip surrounding Lesnar retiring later this year at WWE SummerSlam, which takes place at the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota, which is territory associated with Lesnar from his time with the Minnesota Vikings in 2004. It was assumed he would be facing GUNTHER in that match, who has been stacking up retirements (defeating Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles over the past year in their last matches) and has been in a storyline with Heyman at the moment.
