Cathy Kelley has quickly become the most popular backstage interviewer in WWE and, in the past, has made it clear she has ambitions to expand her role in the company.
Kelley has earned a legion of fans for her work and has also become a popular personality on social media, especially when having fun with WWE Superstars like Rhea Ripley and Kevin Owens.
There's a huge amount she can contribute beyond interviews, and in 2025, it was widely reported that she'd been getting some in-ring training at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida. In a new interview with Chris Van Vliet, Kelley was asked about her WWE future and how her "character" could evolve moving forward.
"I think as long as I’m treated well and I’m having fun, I would love to be involved," she started. "I don’t know in what capacity. I would love to have a family as well. So I don’t know what that looks like, but Mean Gene was doing it all the way up until he passed."
Kelley continued, "I don’t think I would want to have a match. I’ve expressed in the past that I do want to get more involved in some capacity. I would love to be a manager. I don’t know who for. That’s been something that I’ve said for probably a decade now. I actually valeted Ryan Katz in his last match on the Indies many, many years ago. But that progression is something that I would want."
Asked about the WWE Performance Center rumours, she largely dodged the question. "I would say that I’m someone that really values growth, and I love learning everything that I can about this business," Kelley mused. "So any opportunity I can do that, I’m going to take it. Another example is I sit next to Paul Heyman every single week in Gorilla."
Elsewhere in the interview, she was asked more about her on-camera persona, and revealed a surprising medical diagnosis that has only served to make Kelley an even more relatable figure to fans.
"I think it’s just a different side to me. I was recently diagnosed with autism, and I recognize that it changes a lot of the social dynamics that I have," she shared. "So when I say introverted, I feel like it’s a little bit more than a typical person would be."
Would she be open to exploring that and her personal life further in a Total Divas revival? "Again, it would be something that I would consider. Because I feel like even though I do share a lot of my life, I do keep a lot of it private as well. With any reality show, you don’t always get to dictate, unless you become an executive producer on it, you don’t always get to dictate what’s shared and what’s not."
WWE seems to really value Kelley, but whether she'll get the opportunity to manage and take a more proactive role in storylines remains to be seen. The company has a habit of placing people in certain roles and leaving them there, so here's hoping she can break free of that.
