Andrade El Idolo recently faced Kenny Omega at TripleMania, but it was Charlotte Flair who made headlines when it was revealed she had joined her fiance backstage at the event.
Rumour has it she asked to be able to accompany him to the ring; however, WWE said "no," and recently released WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair took her place. Now, Charlotte has discussed what led to her being in attendance for the event and how her father ended up tagging along for the ride.
"[Andrade] was like, ‘Mami, TripleMania is my WrestleMania.’ To see him go back to Mexico, be proud of himself, feel confident in himself, and be the superstar that he is, especially in his home country, I was like, I’m not missing this for the world," she said during an appearance on Oral Sessions with Renée Paquette. "I’ve never asked for [time off from] a live event [before]."
The Queen added that she then asked her father to accompany her on the trip, noting that she suggested he accompany Andrade to the ring (we'd heard that was a last-minute decision).
Flair also reflected on the conversation she had with Andrade when he decided to leave WWE. "He felt deflated from not being on TV and what was happening. I said, ‘I can’t tell you what to do, and I can’t beg you to stay even though our life is together on the road because you’ll resent me. You need to go spread your wings and do what you do, and if you want to come back, I’m always going to be here. I’m always going to support you.' It was the best thing for him."
So, the entire thing wasn't quite as controversial as some people claimed, but speculation continues to run rampant that when Charlotte's WWE contract reaches its end, she'll at least consider joining her future husband in AEW. Time will tell on that front, of course, but you can check out the full interview below:
