CM Punk has been surprisingly willing to talk about his WWE career in recent years, and while he certainly didn't hold back as a host of WWE Backstage, the one-time Best in the World has since taken aim at his former employers on more than one occasion on social media.
That includes just a little earlier this month when WWE, in the midst of one of their most profitable years, released Superstars like Braun Strowman, Ruby Riott, and Aleister Black.
Talking on the Wrestling Perspective Podcast, Punk opened up on his two biggest takeaways from his time with the sports entertainment giant. "[The business] paid me a lot of money and I met my wife because of my job," he started. "Those are the two big takeaways, they did try to take a lot of my money but they were very unsuccessful in that. I think I’ve always been a big believer, and Dave Batista is the same way, calls himself the dream chaser."
"I just figured it out at an early age, probably because my parents forced me to go to church and stuff and immediately started to realize a lot of stuff was just bullsh*t and life is short."
"You need to figure out what you love and just try to do that for a living. I was floored when somebody paid me, the first time I ever made money wrestling, I was like well f*ck, I don’t have to have a real job ever again," he continued. "I was all in. It let me follow my dreams. I’ve been everywhere twice because of wrestling. I met my wife, all the fans bought my house, so I appreciate that."
While it's looking increasingly unlikely that Punk will ever step back inside a WWE ring, there's no getting around the fact he will be remembered as a true great with one heck of a legacy behind him.
As these two big takeaways...we'd say he did pretty damn well when all was said and done!
