Earlier this week, the news broke that AEW star Cody Rhodes (and his wife, Brandi) had left the company. Considering the fact he was one of AEW's founding EVPs, the news sent shockwaves through the wrestling world, and we immediately heard that Rhodes might be close to signing with WWE.
It always felt like his WWE departure was meant to prove to the company he could be more than just Stardust, and he's done that and then some (launching their first real competition in decades).
Now, though, Fightful is reporting that TNT's Rhodes To The Top reality series has not been cancelled following his and Brandi's AEW departure as it is a separate entity. The site also confirms that Rhodes still hasn't signed with WWE and there is always a chance he could work something out with AEW. It's possible he might return purely as a talent, of course, and he doesn't seem to harbour any hard feelings if the Tweet below is any indication.
Since Cody and Brandi left AEW, we've heard that the latter wasn't popular backstage and there's been a lot of happiness surrounding her departure (while the opposite is true for Cody). According to Bryan Alvarez on the Wrestling Observer forums, "There aren’t a lot of people who are universally hated. Yes, some people have spoken up in support of Brandi. But I can tell you 100% that I have heard way more people celebrating her departure in the last few days than upset about it."
As always, keep checking back here for updates as we have them!
