Friday night's SmackDown featured a tense face-off between Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns at Georgia Tech's Bobby Dodd Stadium.
The rivals will team up at Bad Blood to face The Bloodline's Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu, and the cinematic segment has received widespread praise from professional wrestling fans.
According to PWInsider, NXT Senior Director of Content and Development Jeremy Borash produced the segment. He's reportedly become WWE CCO Triple H's go-to for on-location segments and Director of Character Development Rob Fee was also on-hand during filming (they've been collaborating a lot in recent months).
Unsurprisingly, it's also said that Paul Heyman was "intricately involved" with the whole thing. In fact, it sounds like he took on the role of director, and The Game has assembled a phenomenal team here to take what we see on RAW, SmackDown, and NXT to the next level.
In other WWE news, all signs are pointing to Rey Fenix and Penta El Zero Miedo, The Lucha Brothers, making the leap from AEW to the sports entertainment giant.
It was in early August that we heard they didn't intend to renew their AEW contracts, and it was claimed this week that they've signed a multi-year deal with WWE that will see them head straight to the main roster. Now, a couple of different sites have chimed in to contradict those stories.
According to Fightful Select, WWE sources have denied that The Lucha Brothers have been signed and that Fenix, at least, is still under contract with AEW. This may sound like a disappointing update but, don't fret, because the site says the expectation is for the tag team - who quickly became one of AEW's biggest draws when it launched - to head to WWE.
We're not sure how Tony Khan managed to drop the ball on these two (they haven't appeared on TV since July) but AEW's loss is about to be WWE's gain.
Matt Hardy, who has also left AEW, recently shared his take on Fenix and Miedo potentially signing with WWE. "They are one of the OG [teams], they’re a couple of the founding talents and really staples of the tag team division."
"I know we talked about this, they’re probably the Young Bucks greatest opponents too which is a big deal if those guys do end up stepping away," he added before being asked if he thinks they'll succeed in WWE. "I do, especially with how much they are playing towards the Hispanic market in this day and age and especially, you know, going on tours in Mexico and South America."
"They’d would be huge, they would be huge."
Stay tuned for updates as we have them.
