Prior to his return at Money in the Bank, we endured months of speculation about Drew McIntyre's WWE status. It was widely reported that he's unhappy with his current place in the company and is looking to leave once his contract reaches its end.
It's not hard to understand why the former WWE Champion might be unhappy.
This year, early plans called for McIntyre to headline WrestleMania in a match against Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship. However, that changed after The Rock declined to come back and face Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.
It's also hard to escape the feeling WWE dropped the ball by not having him win the world title in front of his home crowd last September at Cardiff's Clash at the Castle.
Still, since returning in July, he's battled GUNTHER for the Intercontinental Championship and is currently a focal point of RAW where he's reluctantly teaming with Matt Riddle (a heel turn seems imminent).
With still no word on whether McIntyre has or plans to sign a new WWE deal, the Hindustan Times recently asked the Scottish Warrior whether he has a future in the company.
"I mean, I keep reading the internet myself. I just saw something earlier," he says. "The internet keeps talking about my future, I guess. But my focus is on the here and now like I don't look to the future, I don't look to the past, I look to the present."
"And my job right now is just making sure we give everybody in Hyderabad the best show possible and I'll continue to give the best performance I can give at every show and I can see I don't plan to be anywhere else. That's as much as I can give."
He's giving nothing away and, if WWE has yet to sign him to a new deal, them comments like these which inevitably make headlines could push them to give McIntyre what he wants (last we heard, that was more money and better creative).
We'll see what happens, but a heel turn could be exactly what's needed to rejuvenate his character and give the RAW Superstar something exciting to sink his teeth into.
