The first Clash at the Castle PLE took place in Cardiff, Wales in 2022, and saw Drew McIntyre challenge Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. Fans expected the Scottish Psychopath to dethrone the Head of the Table, only for a debuting Solo Sikoa to cost him the match.

When the show ended, McIntyre was joined in the ring by boxer Tyson Fury; he's since said the segment wasn't supposed to air and has never spoken particularly positively about their joint rendition of "American Pie."

Talking in the video below, the Scottish Psychopath started by sharing his thoughts on losing to Reigns, a decision widely considered by many to be a huge misstep despite it eventually leading to Cody Rhodes' big WrestleMania moment earlier this year.

"You look at certain moments, and in the moment when you’re living them, you’re like, 'This is ridiculous. We should have found a way out of this. [Austin] Theory could have cashed in, and I could have pinned him,' because we had to protect The Bloodline and Roman at that time," McIntyre explained. "So it’s the top story in the company, the top character. And perhaps at that time, I was like, 'Just feel this is a bad move.'"

"The thing with Tyson Fury. That was stupid. There’s no excuse for that. That’s the worst moment in my entire career. We did the bit, the song, and then I told him, 'Hey, you want to sing Sweet Caroline,' because British fans one, they’re upset. I just lost. Two, they don’t know American Pie."

"He was like, 'Nah, I’m not gonna fight here.' And I figured we’re off the air. That’s what I started doing Oasis bit and singing...just got the crowd going." McIntyre continued. "And I was like, 'Ah, this sucks, but we’re off the air.' Then I found out we were still on the air, and it was a whole thing."

WWE made what many felt was another mistake when the Scotsman lost at this year's Clash at the Castle in Glasgow. However, that did further his rivalry with CM Punk and he was coming off the back of a World Heavyweight Championship win at WrestleMania months before.

McIntyre next looks set to square off with the Second City Saint at Bad Blood, likely in a Hell in a Cell match if recent rumours are to be believed.
