Drew McIntyre will face Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania and, in recent months, has been all over RAW. As one of WWE's top heels, he's proven to be a highlight on the show and as a bad guy who fans love to hate, McIntyre has also shifted a lot of merchandise.
Despite all of that, PWInsider Elite is reporting that the Scottish Warrior still hasn't signed a new contract with WWE. It's said that no agreement has been reached on either a new deal or contract extension, and while those in the know expect him to re-sign, that's not guaranteed.
It sounds like McIntyre is being heavily influenced by what's best for his career; while he and his wife live in the U.S., much of his family are back in Scotland and WWE's demanding schedule means he doesn't get to spend a whole lot of time back home.
While it would be baffling for McIntyre to leave WWE for AEW, if Tony Khan will pay him just as much to only work one day a week, then he may well be tempted (even if it means stepping into a much smaller company for a company which is, sadly, on the decline).
Still, this feels like much ado about nothing, particularly with how McIntyre has been booked by WWE lately.
Talking on The Masked Man Show, the former WWE Champion recently revealed that this latest heel run has allowed him to be his most authentic self yet:
"McIntyre, who has been the same guy for fifteen years. And a lot of it to me personally, man, I just want to inject the truth, speak my truth, and really pull from the past - something which we never did before. The truth hurts sometimes. But they still think it's just a wrestling thing, like the world we live in, a lot of people are just fake that's why it's refreshing to hear somebody telling the truth even if they don't like it."
"I'm trying to be myself, trying to be logical, trying to be fun, and create compelling TV. There's no reason to shout. It's all a case of just relaxing, and being confident, and being present. It's finally just me relaxing, talking like a human being. Extra energy doesn't mean shouting."
Only time will tell what happens with McIntyre and WWE but we'd bet on him winning the title at the Show of Shows and sticking with WWE for at least a few more years!
Stay tuned for updates as we have them.
