There's been a rise in COVID-19 cases in the U.S. and that's led to a big SummerSlam change. Allegiant Stadium has confirmed that both vaccinated and non-vaccinated people will have to wear masks if they hope to attend the event in Las Vegas.
WWE has no plans to return to the ThunderDome, while President Joe Biden has seemingly ruled out any future lockdowns. During the course of the pandemic, WWE has gone to great lengths to avoid mentioning COVID over the past eighteen months or so, and certainly haven't shown anyone in masks.
Now, they'll have no choice because 40,000+ fans will be sitting in the crowd wearing them.
"Allegiant Stadium takes the health and safety of its guests, employees and staff very seriously. In response to rising COVID-19 cases, and in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and State of Nevada Emergency Directive 047, all individuals, regardless of vaccination status, must wear a face mask while inside the stadium," reads a statement from the venue.
"The State of Nevada & CDC do not currently require proof of vaccination to attend events."
It will certainly be interesting seeing how WWE chooses to acknowledge these fans wearing masks, but it could become the norm moving forward, especially with the rise in cases of the Delta variant.
