Alberto Del Rio once had the makings of a top Superstar in WWE and, for a time, he was indeed at the top of the card. During his run in the company, he became a four-time World Champion, a two-time United States Champion (returning memorably to beat John Cena for the title in 2015), and a Royal Rumble winner.
After a tumultuous relationship with former WWE Superstar Paige/Sayara and a series of sexual misconduct allegations, Del Rio's reputation was largely left in tatters.
Charges against him were dropped, but the damage had been done, and it's unlikely that he'll ever step foot in a WWE ring again. Now, his fall from grace is once again the subject of much debate online after footage emerged of him wrestling at an independent show...in a near-empty high school gymnasium.
He's believed to have faced Sam Adonis at a Plantando Bandera event held at the Athletic Complex in Dallas, Texas.
Del Rio, who has frequently compared his situation to that of Johnny Depp's remains resolute in his belief he'll one day be welcomed back into WWE with open arms. We've heard that's not the case, though he said in 2022 that a WWE Hall of Fame induction is inevitable in his mind.
"Yes, of course I [think it will happen]. I’ve been saying this about the Hall of Fame for a long time. It’s just this week we decided to put it out there and see what people think about it. If people check all my interviews, they always say, 'You have won everything, all the titles, all the major titles around the world in the most important companies. What else is there for Alberto Del Rio to accomplish?'"
"I always say the Hall of Fame [next goal in wrestling]. I do have the credentials. Just go and check my records. There’s many performers in the Hall of Fame who are there already because they deserve it. But if you check their records, you check one and the other, I have more accomplishments than some of them or most of them, however you wanna see it."
You can check out Del Rio's low-key entrance in the video below. Presumably, his plan for the time being is to continue working shows like these until he can get back to a place he wants to be in pro wrestling.
