MLW has new tag team champions!
This past Thursday, Major League Wrestling held their Summer of the Beasts show and it was jam packed with surprises. One of those surprises is the pairing of former WWE stars Donovan Dijak and Bishop Dyer (aka Baron Corbin). The pairing was put together by manager Saint Laurent, and the duo challenged Los Depredadores for the prestigious MLW World Tag Team titles.
The two giants worked like a well oiled machine as Bishop and Dijak felt as if they’ve been tagging for years throughout the match-up. Of course, the tag team champions put up one hell of a fight, but the duo was simply overpowered by the former WWE stars. The climax saw Dyer hit Rugido with a Death Valley Driver, which set up a moonsault from Dijak. That got the three count. This is the first MLW title reign for both Dyer and Dijak.
Los Depredadores held the MLW World Tag Team titles for 56 days, besting Los Divinos Laguneros (Blue Panther Jr. & Dark Panther) twice before dropping the belts. However, the tag title changes isn't the only surprise that took place at Summer of the Beasts.
Former AEW World Champion MJF shocked the masses by returning to where it all began.
MJF has been feuding with Mistico as of late.
The CMLL Luchador was in the ring when he was ambushed by members of the SENTAI Death Squad. Mistico was able to dispatch his enemies, but he was blindsided by another member of the SENTAI Death Squad. That mysterious attacker turned out to be Maxwell Jacob Friedman. This was the first time that MJF had stepped into an MLW ring since 2020.
Before he became an AEW star, the 29-year-old started gaining notoriety in Major League Wrestling. He made his debut in 2017 and became the first World Middleweight Champion within the first two months of making his debut. MJF would eventually form a group with Richard Holliday and Alex Hammerstone; they were known as The Dynasty. In addition, MJF would grab the MLW World Tag Team titles with Holliday and kept those belts for 119 days.
While it’s doubtful that MJF is making a meaningful return here, his appearance likely signifies some sort of partnership with AEW. It’s unknown if he’ll compete in an MLW ring again, but it was a fun surprise to see MJF back in his old stomping ground.
