Former WWE Superstar Dolph Ziggler Reveals Why He "Begged" Not To Face Goldberg At SUMMERSLAM In 2019

Dolph Ziggler, now known as Nic Nemeth and the current TNA World Champion, was eager to leave WWE for years. However, he eventually got his release last September and has since made a splash not just in TNA but in companies like New Japan Pro Wrestling and Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide.

Talking to Busted Open Radio, Nemeth looked back at one of his biggest low points in WWE: his two-minute loss to Goldberg at SummerSlam in 2019.

"That Sunday and that Monday were supposed to be my last two days with the company," he revealed. "I was retiring. I was putting over two guys on the way out."

"I go to the boss, and I am begging," Nemeth added after revealing the second Superstar was his old rival, The Miz. "I go, 'Boss, you could have a local do this. If I can't do this, you can't trust me to do this, then you can't trust to me do anything. I don't want to work here.'"

Despite that frustration, Nemeth stepped into the ring with the WWE Hall of Famer and now looks back at the experience fondly.

"A lot of people remember that segment," he admitted. "I take a hell of a spear because it's real with some dips*its. I have some people go, 'I remember that. Was that 25-minute segment?' And I go, 'No, it was about six minutes.' People liked it, it repaired his image."

That's a reference to the fact Goldberg had previously concussed himself before a match with The Undertaker which saw him subsequently drop the Phenom on his head while performing the Jackhammer.

Reflecting on that infamous bout earlier this month, The Undertaker said, "Man it was horrible. The match that I had with Goldberg in Saudi Arabia. There was never a time in my career where I didn't feel like no matter what happened that I couldn't figure out a way to make it all work, and make it make sense get it back on track, and still have a decent match and he got concussed early on."

"[It's] 98 degrees at midnight in the desert and it was just like a train wreck. And the more I tried to fix it the worse it got. I'm not pointing fingers, it's just one of those things that happened where like I just didn't have it in me physically anymore to make things right," the WWE Hall of Famer added.

the more important takeaway here is that Goldberg actually full-fat hit him with that spear as he said "I take a hell of a spear because it's real with some dips*its", that could have like seriously hurt him, Goldberg has always been a very dangerous mess. Putting over Goldberg of all people on Nemeth's way out is an absolutely insane demand from Vince, if someone doesn't need it it's Goldberg.
