Former WWE Superstar Eric Young Reflects On Where Things Went Wrong For Sanity On The Main Roster

Former WWE Superstar Eric Young has looked back on his time as the leader of Sanity in the company, revealing that his attempts to figure out why Vince McMahon wasn't pushing the faction ultimately failed.

When Eric Young arrived in NXT, it was as the leader of Sanity. The stable also featured Alexander Wolfe, Sawyer Fulton, and Nikki Cross, though Fulton was eventually replaced by Killian Dain due to injury.

While it would be unfair to say the group was beloved by fans, they did make an impact and eventually won the NXT Tag Team Championships. However, as was so often the case with Vince McMahon in charge, things quickly went wrong when they arrived on the main roster.

"'NXT' was...I never wanted to leave. I loved it. I loved the whole thing," Young said during an interview with Insight with Chris Van Vliet. "Our debut was supposed to happen on 'SmackDown.' We were supposed to do this thing with New Day on 'SmackDown.'"

"We're literally standing in front of the curtain, we're waiting for them to count us down and say, go, and they're like 'No, we're cutting,' and it's heartbreaking," he said of Sanity's forgettable debut. "It was kind of the end before it even got started, you know? I don't really know what happened."

Young added that he talked to Vince McMahon in a bid to find out why they weren't being pushed. "We all know who that is, not allowed to say the name," he explained. "[He] just kinda didn't like it, kinda didn't get it, although it was his choice to bring us up in the first place."

"He was very complimentary, 'Thank you for bringing this in, thank you for showing initiative.' And then they sent Damo and Wolff back to 'NXT,' and I got sent over to 'Raw' and it got worse," Young added. "I mean, I didn't do anything. I didn't make him mad, I didn't have a bad match, I didn't - there's nothing I did, he just decided that I wasn't no good at whatever it was that I was doing."

Young eventually returned to TNA and has since made a splash in the company as a singles competitor. Wolfe, Fulton, and Dain have all been released by WWE over the past few years, though Cross has since joined The Wyatt Sicks.

With Triple H now in charge, it's possible Young could get another chance in WWE. However, we'd imagine reuniting Sanity probably isn't a top priority for the WWE CCO.

Do you think WWE dropped the ball on Sanity? As always, let us know your thoughts on these comments in the usual place.
