During the 2022 Royal Rumble PLE, Brock Lesnar lost the WWE Championship to Bobbly Lashley before later entering the 30-man Rumble and eliminating Drew McIntyre to secure his spot in the main event of WrestleMania.
At the Show of Shows, Lesnar - who had regained the WWE Championship by that point - lost the title to Roman Reigns, making the Tribal Chief the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion (a title he still holds).
It's no secret that Matt Riddle got on Lesnar's bad side and, while they never wrestled a singles match, the two men did share the ring during the Rumble mentioned above and later at the Elimination Chamber.
During a recent Signed by Superstars appearance, Riddle claimed that he'd been led to believe he would win the 2022 Royal Rumble match, only for the Beast Incarnate to go into business for himself after demanding the victory backstage!
"So I believe - you know, it’s sports entertainment p that I was told at one point, yeah, I was gonna win the Rumble and everything else," he recalled. "Bobby Lashley beat Brock Lesnar because somebody came in and hit him with the belt or what have you."
"Then Brock came in, didn’t wanna do business with everybody, said he was winning, and then he won, and then none of the producers...nobody stood up to him and they let him do it," Riddle added. "I didn’t either, I didn’t either. I’m like, f*ck man, I’m just here."
We're not entirely sure Vince McMahon would stand for that, but it's no secret Lesnar holds a lot of sway in the company. Later. Riddle would claim WWE also lined him up to win that year's Men's Money in the Bank ladder match, only for a last-minute change to be made which saw Austin Theory walk away with the briefcase instead.
WWE released Matt Riddle in September following an incident at JFK Airport which saw the allegedly intoxicated pro wrestler accuse a TSA agent of sexually assaulting him. For the sports entertainment giant, after a series of suspensions and controversies, it was the straw that broke the camel's back, and Riddle was fired.
In a statement on social media following his firing, Riddle said, "Just wanted to inform everyone that I’m no longer with WWE. Thank you for the memories and opportunities also thank you to all the fans for the support and love you give me every time I go out to the ring. See you all soon."
Do you think he'd have made a fitting Royal Rumble or Money in the Bank briefcase winner?
