During the RAW after WrestleMania, all signs pointed to Cody Rhodes and Brock Lesnar teaming up to battle Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns and his cousin, Solo Sikoa.
Instead, The Beast turned on the American Nightmare and delivered a violent beatdown which set the stage for these two to step into the ring one-on-one. This past Monday, a vengeful Rhodes challenged Lesnar to a match at Backlash in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and the match is one that's reportedly been planned for a while.
Now, PWInsider's Mike Johnson has weighed in, explaining that Rhodes vs. Lesnar is part of a promotional deal with Puerto Rico and the first of several "marquee matches" expected to be added to the event.
It sounds like WWE will be promoting the country hard during the show; it's also worth noting that this is the first time the company has held a PPV in the country since New Year's Revolution way back in January 2005.
Despite these major plans for Backlash, Reigns isn't expected to be in attendance.
In fact, it's been reported that he might not work another major show until SummerSlam in August, the first PPV set to take place in the U.S. after WrestleMania. The other two are King and Queen of the Ring in Saudi Arabia on May 27 and Money in the Bank in London on July 1.
Lesnar is set to respond to Rhodes' challenge in person on RAW this coming Monday.
