The AAA Mega Championship changed hands at AAA Worlds Collide: Las Vegas, with Dominik Mysterio defeating El Hijo del Vikingo to win the title in the main event.
Mysterio, who also holds Monday Night Raw's Men's Intercontinental Championship for WWE, has made history as the first-ever person to hold a title in both promotions at the same time.
Vikingo had previously won the title 104 days ago from Alberto El Patron on May 31st at Alianzas, which was a decision that upset a portion of the audience, who have since booed Vikingo for being the chosen champion similar to the reactions Roman Reigns received for many years. This resulted in the dynamics of this match between Vikingo and Mysterio playing out like it was taking place in Bizarro World, as the definitive heel (Mysterio) was cheered continuously over the definitive babyface (Vikingo).
As the heel of the match, Mysterio received some help via interference from two of his fellow members of The Judgment Day, Finn Balor and JD McDonagh.
Vikingo had some backup in Dragon Lee and Rey Mysterio, who wielded a steel chair to take out Balor and McDonagh, once again evening the odds.
However, even though Balor and McDonagh had told Mysterio on Monday Night Raw not to associate with El Grande Americano, as help from him would only result in a favor of some sort needing to be returned, Ludwig Kaiser El Grande Americano did in fact interfere, setting up the loaded luchador mask for Mysterio to use as a weapon.
After using that, Mysterio followed it up with a frog splash to score the pinfall and win the title.
Since there was an earlier interaction between Dom and Rey, where Dom had talked about how he would win the title and Rey would have to strap it around his waist, that is what followed the bell, as Rey begrudgingly put the title around his son's waist before being told to leave the ring so The Judgment Day could celebrate.
