It's been a few years since we first learned of Joker director Todd Phillips' plans for a Hulk Hogan biopic starring Chris Hemsworth. This year, the actor - best known for playing the MCU's Thor - shared a disappointing update on the project, while Phillips has also said he's moved on.

Now, the Hulkster himself has weighed in on why the movie isn't happening in an interview with the PBD Podcast (as always, we'd recommend taking anything the WWE Hall of Famer says with a grain of salt).

"[Netflix] kinda like missed a beat in the contract," Hogan explained. "There was a payment that wasn't placed at the right. The script was amazing. Actually, Scott Silver who wrote the script [for] 'The Joker' stuff, '[The] Wolf of Wall Street,' a bunch of other movies, he said, 'This is the best thing I've ever written.' And when I read it, I went, 'Oh my god, this is really good.'"

According to the former WWE Champion, he felt the movie was too dark and that raised concerns the biopic might be all he's remembered for given how late into his life and career it would have arrived in.

"I just was moving forward at the time and when they, business-wise, missed a date, there was an option for me to pull out and I did. I pulled out," Hogan explained. "I thought, 'Oh my God, this is really good.' At the time, I was in a space where I told him the positive stuff about wrestling and the negative stuff about wrestling."

"I spent about three years with this writer, going back and forth. When I read it, it was very, very dark, if that would be the right word, but it was probably what the public may want to see, you know? And when I read it, I thought, 'Oh my gosh, if this thing comes out...' There was talk that Chris Hemsworth had never played a real person before and he would probably win an Oscar and the movie too."

He continued, "This thing’s so powerful, very powerful. I said, ‘Oh, that’s great. Everybody’s going to do really great, but then I’m going to be left here...and that might be the last thing people remember me for.'"

While this Hulk Hogan movie isn't happening, it was revealed earlier this year that Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are working on Killing Gawker, a project about Hogan's courtroom battle with the now-defunct website that published his sex tape.

Hogan isn't involved in the movie and has previously threatened to take legal action if it becomes a reality.

In other words, Hogan re-uppped with WWE, meaning he no longer needed the money, but needed his reputation protected. Shame, could have been something special.
