Jade Cargill might be "that bitch", but she is no longer the top of the women's division as Rhea Ripley defeated her at WWE WrestleMania 42 to win the WWE Women's Championship.

This breakdown covers how things reached this point, what happened in the ring, and what could be next.

How We Got Here:

After several failed attempts to beat Tiffany Stratton for the title, Jade Cargill eventually got the job done at Saturday Night's Main Event in November 2025. In all likelihood, WWE was hoping to have Cargill face her former tag team partner, Bianca Belair, at this event, though Belair has been out of action since last year's WrestleMania due to a hand injury she suffered in her match against Rhea Ripley and Iyo Sky.

WWE decided to pivot to Ripley as the challenger that would be the next best option, having her drop the Women's Tag Team Championship she had alongside Sky to open herself up for winning the Elimination Chamber on February 28th to earn this opportunity against Cargill.

Match Details:

With some interference from B-Fab and Michin, it appeared Jade Cargill would get the edge and the win, only for Iyo Sky to run out to help fight off the opposition. That provided enough of a distraction that Jade walked into a headbutt from Ripley, who—after a momentary struggle—was able to twist Cargill into the Riptide for the win.

Personal Reactions & What Happens Next?:

Considering Bianca Belair won't be back for many months, they needed to move on. At that point, who would be a better option to hand Cargill her first real big setback loss than their most popular female Superstar who is also one of the few options who could stand toe-to-toe with Cargill and look like the more powerful? It just makes sense. Cargill could and likely will win that title back some other time, but it's never a bad idea to put the belt on The Eradicator, who is easier to write storylines for. Cargill is protected so much that those title reigns tend to be formulaic and suffer the longer they go on. This was a good enough run for her first outing. I'm more interested now in the options they might explore with Ripley as champion than if Cargill retained, wherein I would just be looking at who else she'll be fed next. Shot in the dark pick for the next champion? I'll say either Chelsea Green or Tiffany Stratton, possibly Stephanie Vaquer, if it isn't just that Cargill wins it back.
