WrestleMania 35 has one of the greatest moments in WWE history.
The big show featured Daniel Bryan vs. Kofi Kingston, where the long time veteran had won the WWE Championship for the first time in his career. It was an emotional moment because it was over ten years in the making. Seeing Kofi celebrate with his New Day brothers and family brought a tear to many eyes.
But Kofi Kingston vs. Daniel Bryan wasn’t always the plan. WWE changed course following the reaction the former WWE Champion received after he failed to win the Elimination Chamber match the month prior. Vince made the right decision by listening to the fans and changing the direction. A big part of that reason was due to Daniel Bryan’s investment into the story.
In a recent interview with In the Kliq, Kofi recalls one of his career highlights and labels how much of a great guy the former WWE superstar is:
“Daniel Bryan, I think, is one of the greatest. He’s got to be top-five of all time for a lot of different reasons. His resiliency. He’s a guy who broke his neck and came back when people said that he wasn’t going to be able to do it, you have to admire someone that can do that.”
But it isn’t just about Bryan’s skills that Kofi deems so highly. The former WWE Champion went to bat in getting the 43-year-old into a high profile match at WrestleMania 35, something that Kofi will never forget:
“On top of that, too, he’s somebody who doesn’t really seek any credit, you know what I’m saying? He does a lot of things. He had a lot to do with why I was even in that position. I know he had gone to bat for me to be in that position, because that’s what the people wanted. So I know he was a very big advocate of that, and he’ll never tell you that, he’ll never brag about that, because that’s not what his like purpose in doing that was. It was just about doing the right thing, and I’m always grateful for that.”
Kofi talked about plenty of topics in regards to his career, including why The New Day turned their backs on Big E. It’s a great interview, and it makes you forget to hate Kingston for what he did to Big E. two weeks ago. But only for a second.
