Matt Lyda was the original co-host of The Undertaker's Six Feet Under podcast, but found himself unceremoniously removed from that position when the Phenom's wife, WWE Hall of Famer Michelle McCool, replaced him.
Fans of the podcast didn't respond well to the decision, arguing that Lyda was far superior to McCool, who had already previously been criticised for taking Mickey James' spot on WWE LFG (some felt The Undertaker had used his influence to get her work in the company).
During a recent interview with Maven Huffman, Lyda broke his silence about the end of his on-air relationship with Mark Callaway, stating, "I am not bitter."
He added, "I am not upset with them at all. Just a couple of weeks ago, I was talking to Taker. It was his birthday, and I reached out to him. I said, 'Hey, miss hanging out, miss seeing you.' He goes, 'Me too, man.'"
For Lyda, the biggest disappointment is missing out on the guests he's a fan of. "I’m jealous of the guests that they have on the show right now. I miss sitting down, talking wrestling with my friend. I would have loved to have interviewed Shawn Michaels. Dear God, man."
Pushed on being dropped for McCool, the podcaster made it clear that there are no hard feelings and pushed back on those who criticise the former WWE Diva.
"She opened up her home to me. I played with their kids. A mom is not gonna let somebody just play with their kids. I broke bread with these people. She cooked meals for me. She has been nothing but a phenomenal person to me and to my wife," Lyda explained. "I will never sit here and say anything negative about Michelle McCool."
"I don’t want people making negative comments to her and going, 'I wish I had Matt.' I don’t want that," he continued. "And if that is how she feels, I’m very sorry. I hope that’s not how she feels. I don’t feel that way. I’m very grateful for both of them. It was a podcast. I’ve moved on. 53, 54 episodes with The Undertaker. Pretty cool, right?"
The Undertaker was, and still is, the podcast's main draw. The channel remains hugely popular, and Lyda deserves a good chunk of the credit for that. Whether interviews have suffered with McCool taking over from him is up for debate.
