WWE has released an insane number of wrestlers this year, with big stars, promising up-and-comers, and plenty of solid mid-card talents given the axe. The company has claimed it's all part of "budget cuts," but it sounds like more names are on the way out after those recent NXT releases.
Talking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez broke down the names released on Friday, but after the latter shared his hopes that this is the end of the firings, his co-host responded: "I doubt it that’s it. Everyone is kind of talking like that’s not gonna be it."
Fightful Select, meanwhile, has spoken to a WWE official who expressed a great deal of frustration about what's happening in WWE right now. They also made it clear that "Vince McMahon can personally put a stop to any of these" and described the releases as a collaborative effort (which pretty much debunks claims this is all down to Nick Khan on the executive side).
The source also told that these releases look set to be a regular occurrence, and it seems the days of WWE having a seemingly limitless supply of wrestlers on hand are at an end.
This isn't good news for fans, however. After all, we're already seeing the same old matches play out on RAW and SmackDown each week over and over, so chances are that will continue as there will be fewer options for fresh rivalries. On the plus side, AEW will have plenty of talent to choose from!
