During Monday's RAW, Rey Mysterio squared off with The Vision's Austin Theory. During the closing moments of the match, a brawl ensued on the outside between Bron Breakker, Bronson Reed, and Logan Paul and Dragon Lee and Penta.
That momentary distraction was enough for Theory to hit the WWE Hall of Famer with a Curb Stomp that the former WWE Champion took very awkwardly. As the fight played out around him, Mysterio remained on the mat, and the referee threw up the dreaded "X" signal to indicate an injury.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, things are currently "trending optimistic" for the Master of the 616, and the injury is "not serious." Lending some weight to this report is the fact that Mysterio is now on his way to Saudi Arabia, where the Royal Rumble is being held.
Mysterio has been a little more injury-prone in recent years, but shows no sign of slowing down, even as the likes of John Cena and AJ Styles announce their respective retirements.
Last year, he told Chris Van Vliet that he knows his time in the ring is starting to wind down:
"I don't until it's being brought up and when my wife brings that up, that's when I pause. I don't know if I want to do it another two years, three years. I kind of listen to my body and my mindset, because my body's been feeling great. And with all the benefits that I get from doing like the cold plunge and the sauna."
"Overall, my mind has to be in the right place, so that's probably the hardest thing for me. Because sometimes the age factor comes into mind and not in the moment, but thinking ahead like I want to be able to still move around and walk at 55 or 56. Is my body going to feel the same?"
We'll have to wait and see what's next for Mysterio, but it seems we can expect him to be part of Saturday's 30-man Rumble match.
