Roman Reigns has become an invaluable part of WWE during this pandemic era, and it's hard to imagine SmackDown staying afloat without him. Right now, all eyes are on his match against John Cena at SummerSlam, and the Head of the Table has been doing the rounds to promote that.
A few weeks ago, Reigns delivered a promo on SmackDown which saw him take aim at Cena and point out that him not changing his gimmick is akin to doing the missionary position every night.
It was a brilliant line, but WWE being WWE, it didn't take long until it was edited out of the show. Now, Reigns has opened up on that, and he makes it pretty clear that...well, he doesn't really give a ****.
"There’s a portion of my career where I would either read a script or I would try to adjust a script as much as possible. For a while now, especially since I’ve come back since SummerSlam, I’ve not scripted. I say what I want to and say what I feel," Reigns explained. "If it comes out of my mouth, it’s my verbiage, I come up with it and I deliver it...I don’t know why they edited it out."
"I think it raised some eyebrows, I don’t get in trouble. The gimmick is as close to being real as possible. Even if they tried to say something to me, I wouldn’t have cared anyway. What are you gonna do? Not have me on SmackDown next week? Like I did before SummerSlam last summer, I’ll go home. It doesn’t matter to me, let’s see how they do without me."
Reigns went on make it clear that there is a difference between himself and his character, and he transforms into the latter when he arrives in the arena. The line was pretty harmless, in all honesty, but it doesn't match WWE's PG approach to sports entertainment, hence why it was pulled from replays.
Luckily for Roman, he's a big enough star that he really can get away with pretty much anything...
