Universal Champion Roman Reigns is now WWE's top star, but when CM Punk was in the company, the Head of the Table was still very much an up-and-comer as part of The Shield. With potentially just hours to go before the Best in the World makes his AEW debut on Rampage, Reigns has shared some very interesting comments about his former colleague.
Asked in the video below about wrestlers who leave WWE and then come back and take spots away from those who work full-time (a major issue for Punk during his time in the company), Reigns didn't hold back.
"Those statements are coming from bitter people who thought they were better than they really were. When it comes down to it, CM Punk was not as good or over as John Cena, he wasn’t as good or as over and moved the needle like The Rock," The Big Dog states. "It was what it was."
"From a full-time performer, I understand the frustration and wanting more but like I said before, you gotta take it. I’m a full-time performer but I’ve done everything that needs to be done to stay in this position, to be in this position, to continue to make the opportunity for myself, to be in the main event at SummerSlam against John Cena."
This doesn't appear to have been an "in character" interview, so this is clearly how Reigns feels. What he seems to be missing here, however, is the fact that if WWE booked its full-time talent more effectively, fans would be just as excited to see them as they are returning veterans like Cena and Bill Goldberg.
We'll see if Reigns changes his mind once Punk makes his AEW debut and potentially pushes that company one step closer to topping RAW and SmackDown in the ratings...
