Ronda Rousey successfully made the leap from mixed martial arts to professional wrestling and her transition from UFC to WWE is one she made look easy.
Unfortunately, WWE's decision to book the Baddest Woman on the Planet as a smiling babyface led to a disconnect with fans and Rousey soon grew frustrated with being booed. A heel turn came too little too late and, by the time she returned, the damage was done. No longer a main event draw on the same level as Brock Lesnar, she became just another woman on the card and understandably grew frustrated with her position there.
Following a losing effort to Shayna Baszler at SummerSlam in a disappointing "MMA Rules" match, Rousey left WWE and despite rumours of a UFC return, it appears she isn't done with pro wrestling just yet.
The last time Rousey fought in UFC was in a losing effort to Amanda Nunes at UFC 207 in December 2016 in a 48-second TKO. A return so she can end her career with a win makes sense, but Ariel Helwani later debunked those claims.
Instead, Rousey recently made a surprise return to the ring at a Lucha VaVOOM show, teaming with real-life friend and AEW star Marina Shafir to take on Taya Valkyrie and Brian Kendrick in a tag team match. She picked up the win over Kendrick in what proved to be an impressive showing.
Now, though, she's announced her next appearance on the independent wrestling circuit. As you can see below, it looks like the former WWE Women's Champion will be part of Wrestling REVOLVER's upcoming California debut, likely because that's where she resides with her family.
Beyond that, it really does seem like Rousey is hoping to make an impact on the Indy scene. Whether this will lead to her working with AEW remains to be seen, though it's also possible she'll one day return to WWE (we wouldn't bank on it).
