Since the Royal Rumble, many WWE fans have expressed dismay with how the WrestleMania card is taking shape. Rumour has it the company is already considering shaking up plans for Drew McIntyre following backlash to him potentially facing Damian Priest, but what about the main event?
As of now, all signs point to Cody Rhodes defending the WWE Undisputed Championship against John Cena as the Leader of the Cenation looks to secure his record seventeenth world title.
According to @WrestleVotes, there are those in WWE pushing for CM Punk to be inserted into the match. "I don’t know if it’s been discussed in an official capacity," the insider explains, "but I do know there are people there that would rather that match [Rhodes vs. Cena vs. Punk] than Reigns vs. Punk vs. Rollins if that matters at all."
"I don’t know, but I do know that there are some people who would prefer that," they add, suggesting the WrestleMania card is by no means set in stone at this stage.
On RAW this past Monday, Punk teased tension with Cena when he took a shot at his old rival for not qualifying to earn his place in the upcoming Elimination Chamber match.
"I already qualified for the Elimination Chamber. Two people have qualified, but I know you're thinking there's three people in the match? Well one of us just decided to tell the world 'Hey everybody, I'm in the Elimination Chamber'. By the sounds of it, a couple of you are upset about this, and maybe I was too, I am no longer upset."
"John Cena is a legend, deserves to call his shot but the bad news for John Cena is that I busted my ass to qualify for the Chamber so at some point you are going to see me and you're not just gonna see me like you did at the Rumble, I'm going to beat the living crap out of you, I'm going to beat you and I'm going to WrestleMania. Cody, I'm coming for you."
This comes after an ESPN interview in which the Second City Saint shared his desire for another one-on-one match with Cena.
"I think he's John Cena. He can call his shot and he's busy doing other stuff," Punk said. "He's spending more time here giving back on his way out ... I would feel fortunate if he picked me to do anything with me."I think there's a story to tell there and, selfishly, I just like being around John."
"I tried to hang out with him as much as I could at the Rumble because I know this is fleeting," he continued. "I'd be a liar if I told you that I didn't want to do anything with him."
What are your hopes for the WrestleMania main event?
