Former WWE and Universal Champion Seth Rollins was a guest on the latest episode of Steve Austin's Broken Skull Sessions, and addressed the controversial main event of 2019's Hell in a Cell. In that match, Rollins defended his title against Bray Wyatt/The Fiend inside a Hell in a Cell, but the match ended by referee stoppage when he hit his opponent with a giant hammer.
Fans hated it, and it was the beginning of the end for Rollins as a babyface. Fans turned on The Architect due to the way he was booked and the fact they wanted The Fiend to win the match.
As for how Rollins felt to be booed out of the building...well, he wanted to strangle Vince McMahon.
"Yeah, I mean look, I put a positive spin on it now that I can look back on it a year and a half later. At the time, I came back through that curtain and I was ready to strangle Vince McMahon. I’m not kidding you, Tyson Kidd [TJ Wilson] was there to hold me back," Rollins confessed. "I stared right into Vince’s eyes, you know where he sits in that chair over there. I looked at him and he looked at me and we didn’t say a single word to each other and he walked out."
"The next day, I went into Vince’s office, I was much calmer and said, ‘Let’s talk about this. We need to figure out what we’re doing here because that can’t happen again,'" he added. "It was civil, but it took me a night to...I was ready to go, man. If someone wasn’t there to make sure I was ok...my temper...my adrenaline...you know."
There were a few other things that happened at the time which resulted in Rollins falling out of favour with fans, but this match was a killer. Vince and poor booking can be blamed for that, of course, and it's no wonder the former member of The Shield was angry with how things played out during the bout.
How happy Rollins is with his current role in WWE is hard to say, but at least now he has another option, eh? We'd certainly love to see him in the same ring as the likes of Kenny Omega and CM Punk...
