After weeks of build-up, John Cena and The Undertaker went one-on-one at WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans back in 2018, and the match was... not great.
'Taker took control, maintained control, and pinned his opponent in just under five minutes.
Despite both icons squaring off in the past, this was billed as the Phenom's final match - after he'd already "retired" following his bout against Roman Reigns at 'Mania the previous year - and fans were expecting a lot more than an underwhelming squash.
As it turns out, so was The Undertaker.
"So, I’ve trained for a 45-minute war, right, and all right, here’s redemption. I’m gonna, man, I am going to light this place on fire, I felt good," the Deadman told Chris Van Vliet during a recent interview. "And Vince [McMahon] calls me into his office and he goes okay, he says it’s just gonna be about five minutes, you know, you’re gonna squash him. I’m like, what? What?"
He didn't really elaborate on McMahon's reasoning, but previous rumors have indicated that there may have been some concerns about 'Taker's health heading into the match - although these comments from the Deadman himself would seem to contradict those reports.
