The TNA X Division Championship has changed hands as Moose lost the title to Leon Slater at TNA Slammiversary on July 20, 2025.
Interesting to note is not only that this is Slater's first championship in the company and that a title change happened at all, but that Slater at 20 years old has now broken the record of being the youngest person to win any belt in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, which previously was set by Taylor Wilde at 22.
After the match, Moose snatched away the title belt before it was handed over to Slater. Instead of trying to run off with it, though, Moose did so instead so that he could be the one to christen Slater, turning him around and fastening the belt to his waist. He said some inaudible words to Slater that seemed like words of encouragement and then left the ring.
That wasn't it for putting over the new champion, though.
As Slater was still in the ring, soaking in his victory, AJ Styles came out to a ruckus reaction. The Phenomenal One cut a promo about the energy of the crowd, as well as the history of TNA from back when he was in the company, mentioning names that were on the roster at the time like Homicide, Samoa Joe, Frankie Kazarian, Christopher Daniels, and more.
Styles hyped up Slater a lot, saying that he shows off why the X Division is about "no limits" and that it is in "phenomenal" hands with Slater as a future face of the company in the works.
Personal Reactions & What Happens Next?:
This is a big tip of the cap to Slater. Clearly, TNA is putting a lot of investment in him if they had Moose drop the title in that fashion and use up the AJ Styles appearance just to hype him up. They must really think that they've got their "next AJ Styles" in him, as someone young enough to grow up within the company.
That may very well be true. For now, he has to see how his first title reign goes down and take it from there.
I also assume this may be a full-fledged babyface turn for Moose as The System fights against DarkState, and Moose could be the guy to dethrone Trick Williams, even.
