Tommy Dreamer was among those interviewed for last week's "Plane Ride From Hell" episode of Dark Side of the Ring, but he's received a significant amount of backlash for his comments.
A big chunk of the episode was devoted to allegations that WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair exposed himself to a stewardess and attempted to force her to touch his penis, something Dreamer wrote off as harmless fun (he also seemed to dismiss the seriousness of her claims after she received financial compensation).
Following his indefinite suspension from IMPACT Wrestling, Dreamer has issued a statement on Facebook:
"Regarding my comments made on Dark Side of the Ring
It was never my intention to offend, hurt or victim shame anyone
I understand my comments were insensitive and could trigger emotions in someone’s own personal past.
I do not condone sexual misconduct of any kind.
I apologize to anyone I offended.
From the bottom of my heart
I am so sorry"
Flair has yet to comment on this Dark Side of the Ring episode, though Car Shield commercials featuring the Nature Boy have been pulled from TV. Next week's instalment could also pose a problem for him as it will focus on the death of Chris Kanyon, an openly gay wrestler who said in interviews that his WWE release was a result of his sexuality.
During an appearance from Kanyon on the Howard Stern Show, Flair actually called in and discredited the former WWE Superstar by saying he was let go for being not good enough and the "choices in his life." He would later take his own life, and Flair's remarks are bound to come under fire.
Needless to say, Flair's rumoured AEW debut is now in doubt.
