This year's WrestleMania took place in Orlando, Florida, the home of theme parks like Universal Studios and Disney World. It was a huge event and it's been announced today that the event generated a huge $181.5 million for the Orlando region this past April. This is a new record for WrestleMania's economic impact on a host city and the sixth year in a row the PPV has made over $100 million.
"On behalf of the residents of the City of Orlando, I would like to thank the tens of thousands of WWE fans that converged on our city to be part of WrestleMania Week," said Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer. "The week-long series of events boosted our economy by bringing guests to our restaurants, shops and hotels, and also benefited our city through community outreach initiatives. We look forward to welcoming WrestleMania back soon." That won't be for a while, though, as next year's event takes place in New Orleans!
75,245 fans attended WrestleMania this year and it was both the highest-grossing and most-attended event in Citrus Bowl history. 79% of attendees hailed from outside of Orlando and $9.3 million was spent in Orlando restaurants. This news comes just days before tickets for next year's event go on sale and that will be the second time WrestleMania has been held there. Will you be going?
