It's been confirmed today that WWE Hall of Famer Terry Funk has died at the age of 79.
A beloved figure in the world of professional wrestling, he showed off his toughness from WWE to All Japan to WCW and, of course, ECW. As part of the latter company, despite being in his 50s, Funk established himself as a hardcore legend and beat Raven for the ECW Championship at Barely Legal in 1997.
Prior to that, Funk - the son of Dory Funk, Sr. - started wrestling in the 1960s and, after winning the NWA World Championship, he later competed for WWE for the first time in 1985. Alongside his brother, Dory Funk, Jr., he wrestled at WrestleMania 2 and had a memorable feud with Ric Flair in WCW in the late 80s before heading to Japan.
It was there he and fellow WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley had some of their most memorable matches.
Funk returned to WWE in 1998 as Cactus Jack's tag team partner, Chainsaw Charlie, and played a key role in the iconic Hell in a Cell Match between The Undertaker and Mankind.
Later winning the United States Championship and WCW Hardcore title, his final WWE match was at ECW One Night Stand in 2006 where he teamed with Tommy Dreamer and Beulah McGillicutty against Mick Foley, Edge and Lita.
He'd later wrestle on the independents, of course, and is known in Hollywood for appearances in movies like Roadhouse, Paradise Alley, and Over the Top.
Our thoughts go out to Terry's family at this time.
