Over the weekend, footage surfaced of Jeff Hardy at a WWE house show acting sluggish during a match with The Bloodline. After tagging out, he left through the crowd, and it was later reported the company had made the decision to send him home. In an update, Fightful has now confirmed Jeff has been released by WWE.
The site notes that, "WWE reportedly offered Jeff Hardy help and rehab, and it was not accepted."
It's safe to assume then that previous substance abuse issues have reared their ugly head, though it's hard not to wonder whether this could be a result of the damage Jeff has done to his body over the years. He's certainly not looked at his best recently from a physical standpoint, though it's certainly a shame to think that his WWE run has come to an end in this way.
After signing a lengthy deal with WWE (which seemingly put an end to him ever joining brother Matt in AEW), it was clear Jeff had high hopes for a solid push. Unfortunately, he's been booked as far from a main event talent - even chasing the 24/7 Championship with other jobbers at one point - and not even getting his old entrance music back has helped matters.
Jeff's last television match was on the November 26 episode of SmackDown when he teamed with Drew McIntyre to defeat Madcap Moss & Happy Corbin.
It goes without saying that we wish Jeff a speedy recovery. With any luck, he'll get another chance in AEW or IMPACT Wrestling as there's still a lot more he can give to the pro wrestling business.
