WWE Has Successfully Trademarked "3:16" But It Doesn't Signal Stone Cold Steve Austin's Return

WWE has finally succeeded in trademarking the numbers "3:16" which were obviously made famous by Stone Cold Steve Austin but it's not because the Texas Rattlesnake is planning a return to the squared circle...

Stone Cold Steve Austin made the numbers 3:16 famous at the King of the Ring event in 1996 when he took down Jake Roberts to win the popular tournament. The promo delivered by the Texas Rattlesnake turned him into a star and is one of the most memorable promos in wrestling history. Now, WWE is looking to capitalise on that all over again.

The company has trademarked "3:16" for new clothing and garments, something which probably shouldn't come as too much of a surprise considering the fact that the original "Austin 3:16" t-shirt is one of their all-time best sellers. However, rather than signalling a new wave or Stone Cold merchandise or even his long rumoured in-ring return, it's going to be used on city specific t-shirts.

Just like you can get "Suplex City" t-shirts with your city's name on them, these will read "New York 3:16" or "Los Angeles 3:16" for example. It's a cool idea and one which will no doubt lead to Stone Cold's merchandise once again filling out arenas. It's just a shame that he's unlikely to ever return to the squared circle as an active competitor at this point!
