Mariah May signed a contract with AEW in November 2023 and, despite having already made a name for herself in Stardom, she's frequently considered to be among the few "homegrown" talents to have emerged from Tony Khan's company.
May received widespread acclaim for her memorable feud with Toni Storm in 2024, and later won the AEW Women's Championship at All In before Storm managed to recapture the title.
Their feud concluded at the AEW Revolution PPV in March, and May hasn't been seen since. In recent weeks, it's been widely reported that she's planning to make the jump to WWE, becoming the latest wrestler to use Tony Khan's company as a stepping stone to bigger and brighter things.
During the latest edition of WrestleVotes Radio on SportsKeeda's Backstage Pass Patreon, it was revealed that WWE is willing to make May an "outstanding offer" to jump ship to the company. While she won't be able to engage in official contract talks until closer to the fall, it sounds like WWE will pull out off the stops to bring her into the fold.
While May may be allowing the world to think she'll head to WWE to secure an even bigger deal with AEW, the sports entertainment giant feels like a natural next step for her career, especially as Khan's company peaked a long time ago.
Time will tell, but the former AEW Women's Champion feels like a perfect fit for WWE and is surely someone Triple H is eager to bring into the fold. The company's women's division is going from strength to strength - even if the booking doesn't always reflect that - and May would be an exciting addition to the main roster.
Last December, May said this about her future with WWE:
"I mean, for me, right now, no pun intended, I’m all in with AEW. They gave me my life here in America, and that was always my dream as a kid. I knew I wanted to be an entertainer. I wanted to be a wrestler, which kind of felt impossible, but clearly it’s not. But it was always my dream to come here, and they’ve given me that, and on my rookie year, to kind of give me the opportunities and the platform they have, and yes, I’ve delivered, but they’ve also given me that chance."
"I’m very committed to AEW and committed to kind of making a legacy and for me, it was tough. I did kind of have this crisis. I’m like, I’m in my first year in the company, I won the title in my home, on my our biggest show. So now where do I go? But I think the exciting thing is we forget that AEW is a baby. It’s such a new company. I think because it’s so big we forget that this wasn’t here five years ago. It’s just crazy."
"So for me, I think it’s exciting because we’re gonna have so many firsts and we’re gonna create history, and to be a part of that legacy and that growth, that’s something that I’m kind of looking to spend the next couple of years doing. Never been TBS Champion, and we have Mercedes prancing around with all these belts, so I think there’s a lot of story there. I think every single new girl that comes through that door, there’s stories to tell, and I’m excited to be a part of that."
Has something changed since then? It's hard to say, but it feels like big things are on the horizon for her either way.
