WWE and Roku have today announced plans for WWE: Next Gen, a new 8-part documentary that chronicles the lives of athletes vying to get a contract and become Superstars in the largest sports entertainment company in the world.
John Cena is an executive producer on the show and we'll follow these hopefuls from tryouts in Los Angeles to training at WWE's elite WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, where they’ll get coaching and insights from some of WWE’s biggest Superstars.
It's said that, "The road to the ring will challenge them, but the biggest tests they’ll face will be ones they create on their own."
This sounds a lot like a new take on Tough Enough (minus the competition concept) and it's an intriguing way to introduce us to eight wrestlers who may or may not soon become a regular fixture on WWE television. If nothing else, we know a lot of you will appreciate a glimpse into the inner workings of the WWE Performance Center!
"It takes next-level talent, passion and drive to become the next great WWE Superstar," Triple H said on X earlier today. "Who will seize the opportunity and help shape the future of our business? [WWE: Next Gen] streams free on [The Roku Channel] on April 1."
Cena, meanwhile, added: "A never-before-seen look into the journey of dozens of athletes who dream of becoming [WWE] Superstars. Millions dream. Many try. Fewer succeed."
WWE: Next Gen is executive produced by John Cena, Arthur Smith, Frank Sinton, Ian Mallahan, Sharalynn Cornwall, and Dan Baime, and poduced by WWE & A. Smith & Co. Productions.
Featured WWE talent is said to include John Cena, Paul "Triple H" Levesque, Shawn Michaels, Ettore "Big E" Ewan, Bianca Belair, Ric Flair, and more surprise guests.
