It's been nearly three years since "The Big Dog" Roman Reigns became WWE's Tribal Chief, and he's now surpassed 1000 days as Undisputed WWE Universal Champion (with a rather lovely new belt to commemorate the occasion).
Reigns has gone from being a largely unpopular babyface to the company's top heel, but what is WWE's endgame?
The Bloodline drama has continued on SmackDown, this time with Jimmy Uso turning on the Head of the Table. With that, we can look forward to weeks of excitement and intrigue as Jey is forced to choose between his cousin, Roman, and his twin brother. Throw Solo Sikoa into the mix and another compelling storyline is on the table for Money in the Bank and beyond.
In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer shed some light on future plans for Reigns in WWE and offered insights into where this is likely heading.
"The angle remains the focal point of the company and has plenty of twists and turns left," he started. "There is who Jey Uso sides with that can be dragged out, the inevitable Sikoa and Reigns feud, [and] more with Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes way down the line."
Meltzer added, "[In] the end, the Reigns babyface turn in the role as the all-time legend, which it seems these past few years is grooming him to be, and the special attraction superhero babyface for the big shows."
That makes perfect sense, though we can't help but wonder what would lead to that babyface turn. WWE is lacking great heels right now, so someone will have to be groomed for that spot if Reigns is indeed going to become the new John Cena!
As always, stay tuned for updates as we have them.
