Triple H, a.k.a. Paul Levesque, has finally opened up on the health scare last year that led to him being hospitalised. Explaining that he had viral pneumonia (he didn't specify whether that was related to COVID), The Game revealed his lungs became inflamed and he eventually got checked out by doctors after his wife, Stephanie McMahon, noticed he had started coughing up blood.
However, he suffered heart failure in the emergency room after the fluid in his lungs also started affecting that organ. "I was nose-diving and sort of at the 1-yard line of where you don't want to be really, for your family and your future," Triple H explained. "There's moments in there when they're putting you out for stuff and you think, 'Is this it? Do you wake up from this?' That's tough to swallow and makes you think differently."
As a result of what he went through and the surgeries that followed, the Cerebral Assassin has been forced to retire from in-ring competition. "I will never wrestle again," he confirms. "First of all, I have a defibrillator in my chest, which, you know, probably not a good idea for me to get zapped on live TV."
After NXT was taken from him, Triple H now serves as WWE's executive vice president, Global Talent Strategy & Development. His last match was with Randy Orton in January 2021, and the nine-time WWE Champion noted that there had once been plans for him at this year's WrestleMania.
It's a great shame to think that's it for Triple H in the squared circle, but his legacy speaks for itself.
