During last night's episode of All Elite Wrestling: Dynamite, Sammy Guevara made his return to the company after being suspended. That came after some comments he made on The Whole F'N Show back in January 2016 resurfaced in which he joked about wanting to rape Sasha Banks.
He apologised to Banks for what he said, and AEW later announced that they would be donating his salary to the Women's Center of Jacksonville, Florida. He was also booked in for sensitivity training, and AEW President Tony Khan shared a statement with Sports Illustrated about the decision to bring Guevara back to the company.
"Sammy completed four weeks of extensive sensitivity training, and his curriculum included subject matters of tolerance, gender, race relations, and why people’s words matter," he explained. "During his suspension, he was very contrite. I asked him to use that time to try and become a better person, and I think he did."
"Sammy was off television for a month and suspended without pay for 30 days, and I think it was the right time for Sammy to come back because he’s shown that he’s very sorry and that he can change. He’s spent every day over the past month trying to prove that."
It's hard to argue with that, and his career shouldn't be ended due to immature comments he made as a young man. Hopefully, he's learned his lesson and is a better person for it.
