Chris Van Vliet recently caught up with Matt Hardy to discuss his role in All Elite Wrestling, and among the topics he covered was what led to him heading to that company after finishing up with WWE.
"For me, AEW made the most sense," he started. "I could see Vince and WWE, they already had it in their mind. Vince was ready to move me from being a talent to working backstage, being a producer and giving back and teaching other guys behind the scenes. I’m very happy to do that, but later on These last few years I have left to do this physically, I want to do it."
Hardy explained that WWE had a very specific idea for how he should be used on television, and it was that which led to him heading to a company where "there is such a refreshing creative liberty and also I can create a freedom where I have input and I really have a hand in the direction my career goes in. I’ve been enjoying this. This is a great place."
Hardy was also asked how he's doing after taking that chairshot to the head from Sammy Guevara a few weeks ago on Dynamite, and while he's been cleared to wrestle, it sounds like it's something he's struggling with even now. "It’s still numb. It’s still sore. I had really bad headaches the first few days which were really annoying," Hardy explained. "I was really lucky I wasn’t concussed badly. I was able to hit the chair a little bit and slowed it down. If I wasn’t able to slow it down, I’m sure it would have knocked me completely unconscious."
"But even knocking it down and slowing it down, it still split me open," he continued. "I needed 13 stitches. It did some damage to the back of my neck. It whiplashed my neck. My neck was banged up for a couple weeks. I had a couple weeks off and I’m back and ready to go again."
Hardy will get his chance for revenge during Saturday's All Out PPV when he battles Guevara in a "Broken Rules" match.
