After several weeks of surprises, upsets, and great matches, the New Japan Cup tournament is finally over.

The finals came down to former IWGP Heavyweight champion Kazuchika Okada and former IWGP Tag Team champion SANADA, who’s proved throughout the 32-man competition that he does belong in the main event; however, the rising star wasn’t able to get the best of ‘The Rainmaker’.

The two had a great back-and-forth encounter that highlighted why both men were in the finals of the New Japan Cup, but after a grueling 30-minute bout, Okada hit “The Rainmaker”, which put SANADA away for the three count. The former IWGP Heavyweight champion will now get a chance to avenge both his G1 Climax and Wrestle Kingdom 13 loss at the G1 Supercard in Madison Square Garden.
