The former MLW World Heavyweight Champion explains why he re-signed with the promotion.
Earlier this month, it appeared that both MLW and Tom Lawlor had went their separate ways, as Court Bauer thanked the former world champion for his time and dedication within the company. The speculation strongly indicated that Lawlor was indeed on his way out; however, on Nov. 22, the promotion confirmed that the 36-year-old had inked a multi-year deal with the company.
So what ultimately made Tom Lawlor stay with MLW? The former MLW World Champion reveals his reasoning on
Filthy Four Daily (transcript courtesy of
fightful.com):
"I was offered a very good deal by MLW to stay. That deal allows me not only to continue to do battle with [Jacob] Fatu, amongst others. It also allows me to continue wrestling across the globe for a variety of different promotions. In my life, right now, that's something very important to me. It would not be offered by virtually any other company. My contract, up until recently, was non-exclusive to a degree. I was available to most companies. They did not sign me up. MLW gave me a great offer. We went back-and-forth over the last couple of months. I didn't know what my future was going to hold, but MLW came through. We came to an agreement that allows me a lot of leeway as far as what my future holds while keeping me underneath their banner."
The former UFC fighter also makes it clear that he’s far from done inside the octagon, though he doesn’t give a time table on when he could return to MMA. Lawlor is still heavily featured on MLW, with the former champ getting a big victory over Timothy Thatcher at the Saturday Night SuperFight pay-per-view.
