NJPW Officials Announce A Four-Man Tournament For The Now Vacant IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title

Hiromu Takahashi has been forced to surrender the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight title due to a severe neck injury. Now, four men will compete in a tournament to become the next Jr. Heavyweight champion. Find out who.

New Japan Pro Wrestling officials have announced at a Sunday press conference that Hiromu Takahashi has relinquished the IWPG Jr. Heavyweight. Championship as he’s recovering from a severe neck injury. NJPW has decided to hold a four-man tournament.

The competitors will be Kushida, Bushi, Will Ospreay, and Marty Scurll.

Kushida vs. Bushi will be held at the September 23 event in Kobe, Japan, and Scurll vs. Ospreay will once again meet on September 30 event in Long Beach, California. The winners will meet in the finals on October 8 at Sumo Hall. Read the official announcement at NJPW1972.com.

Takahashi suffered his neck injury back at Dominion in his title match against Dragon Lee when he landed on his neck after a Phoenix Plex. Luckily, Takahashi career isn’t over, but it's been reported that Takahashi will definitely be out for the rest of the year.
