Is Matt Cardona a future ROH World Champion?
Last week, Matt Cardona shocked the world by challenging Chris Jericho for the ROH World Championship. Chris Jericho is a multi-time world champion who has won belts in WCW, WWE, New Japan Pro-Wrestling, and AEW. Chris Jericho’s career spans for over three decades.
But that doesn’t mean Matt Cardona doesn’t have a chance. The former WWE star has been making waves on the Indy scene since his WWE departure in 2020. Matt Cardona has won over ten championships on the indie circuit. His biggest win can come at Death Before Dishonor on December 20th. Before the former WWE stars clash, they’ll have a contract signing to make the match official.
In an international qualifier, ROH Women’s World Champion Athena will take on Leyla Hirsch, Billie Starkz, and Red Velvet in a fatal four way match. Athena has been on a massive tear as the ROH Champion, but it’s noticeable that she’s at a major disadvantage because she has three other competitors to deal with.
One of those participants is the Women’s World TV Champion, Red Velvet. These four ladies are no strangers to one another and though none of the titles are on the line, this could be a career defining win for either Billie Starkz or Leyla Hirsh if they can beat the Women’s and TV Champion in the same match.
In the first of two championship matches, Lee Moriarty is scheduled to defend the ROH Pure Rules title against Matt Taven. Moriarty has successfully defended his belt against Angelico and Preston Vance, will he be able to fend off Matt Taven as well? Taven is a former ROH World and TV Champion, so if Moriarty beats the veteran then it would be his biggest win to date.
For the NJPW Strong Openweight Tag Team titles, Grizzled Young Veterans” Zack Gibson and James Drake will put their titles on the line against MxM Collection’s Mason Madden and Mansoor.
