It appears that Justin Gatheje vs. Conor McGregor might not happen after all.

Over the last couple of days, rumors have swirled that the former two-division champion could end up facing the #4 ranked fighter instead, which was a bit surprising given the fact that McGregor and Dana White have been campaigning for Khabib vs. McGregor II next.

Now, Ali Abdelaziz - the manager for Justin Gatheje – has addressed the speculation and flat out denies that the fight will take place anytime soon:

The statement is actually contradictory to Gaethje calling out McGregor a few days prior, as the lightweight expressed his desire to fight “Notorious” next since Kahbib is busy with Tony Ferguson. This isn’t the first time that Gaethje called out the former Lightweight Champion, so it’s interesting that his manager is shutting down the rumors of a potential fight.

Once the fight between Nurmagomedov and Ferguson at UFC 249 is over, we’ll surely know the future of the top ranked individuals in the division.
