Brian Ortega got into an impromptu fight at UFC 248 Saturday.
While the world was focused on the fantastic bout between Zhang Weili and Joanna Jedrzejczyk, the featherweight confronted Rapper Jay Park, who’s also the translator for Chan Sung Jung.
This all goes back to last month when ‘The Korean Zombie’ claimed that Ortega ducked out of their planned fight at UFC Fight Night Busan. Jung would actually go on to beat former UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar via TKO that night.
Not surprisingly, Ortega didn’t take light to the accusation as the California native was reportedly forced to withdraw from the bout due to a knee injury. Ortega responded to Jung’s claims and actually threatened Park as well (Transcript courtesy of MMA Junkie):
“When I saw him in Korea, he apologized and said sorry for the trash talk, and I said all good because at least you came at me like a man,” Ortega wrote in a comment.
“Now you just a b*tch dawg. Jay Park welcome to the fight game don’t be surprised if I slap the (expletive) out of you when I see you. Having an injury and ducking are 2 different things.”
That’s exactly what happened at the pay-per-view on Saturday as Ortega went over to Park and slapped him while ‘The Korean Zombie’ was in the bathroom. The altercation didn’t go farther than that as Ortega was escorted out of the building. Dana White later confirmed the incident during the media scrum.
According to Jung’s manager, Jason House, a police report was filed following the incident and issued a statement to
MMA Junkie:
“Both teams were contacted prior to last night’s event and were asked by the UFC to be respectful and to not have any confrontations,” House wrote.
“Our team respected the UFC’s request and maintained our professionalism throughout the night. Police reports were filed immediately after the incident occurred and now it’s a matter for law enforcement officials to handle. Korean Zombie has always been a class act and will continue to be. Our objective remains the same; to put ourselves in the best position both inside and outside the cage to become the featherweight champion this year.”
Jung later released a statement over the incident and is clearly not happy over the situation.
The South Korean native labeled Ortega a “coward” and wants to fight the featherweight, promising to knock him out.
White himself has indicated that’s he willing to book a match between Ortega and Jung at a later date. Ortega has yet to release a statement since the incident occurred.
