Will we finally get Tyron Woodley vs. Colby Covington?
Before UFC Fight Night London was cancelled, Colby Covington volunteered to fight the former UFC Welterweight Champion as a replacement for Leon Edwards; however, it appears that the California native wasn’t too serious according to Woodley, who put Covington on blast for not backing up his words.
Now, weeks later, the two welterweights are back at it again as Covington issued out the challenge for UFC 249, which does appear to lack a true main event at the moment as Khabib Nurmagomedov confirmed that he won’t be able to make it to UFC 249:
Not surprisingly, it didn’t take Woodley long to respond:
As of this writing, there’s no word on whether officials are truly considering adding the welterweight fight to the pay-per-view. Thus far, the status of UFC 249 remains up in the air as a new location has yet to be revealed and the main event is unlikely to happen.
During a recent Instagram Q&A session, the former welterweight champion states that this will be the last opportunity that he gives Covington to fight him (Transcript courtesy of MMA Fighting):
“This is my last time saying I want to fight Colby, If Colby don’t fight me this time, I’m moving on. Like think about it, why am I even talking about fighting Colby? He’s never won an undisputed title, he’s never been a champion. I’ve won five world titles. I’ve fought in seven [title fights]. For me to even have his name in my mouth is stupid. This sh*t is mucus. I should just spit it out in the grass.
“But at the end of the day, this is his last opportunity for me to even mention him,” Woodley added. “If he don’t fight me at this time, you’re never even going to hear his name, cause it doesn’t solidify my legacy to fight him. I just want to beat his ass cause y’all need to see him get whooped.”
